An interview with Decanter Magazine

I may have been quiet on here for some time, but things haven’t actually been quiet for me. I’ve been doing lots of travelling in preparation for the launch of the new qualification the WSET has been developing in Sake. I did however find the time to do an interview with Decanter magazine as part of their series on judges for the Decanter World Wine Awards 2014.

Christmas with wine, part 2

The second of my Christmas with wine videos for The Guardian is now available. This time Bruno Loubet prepared a delicious meal for me, starting off with cured salmon served with beetroot and horseradish snow. This was followed by roast partridge and all the trimmings. Finally there was a rich chocolate cake with an orange and caramel sauce. As before I chose two wines I thought would go well with each course. I hope you enjoy watching the video and that you might find some inspiration for your Christmas food and drink.

Christmas with wine

Like it or not, Christmas is creeping up on us at an alarming rate. So with that in mind, you might want to check out the following video, which I filmed with Angela Hartnett, for The Guardian. Angela designed an amazing alternative Christmas dinner for me. To start she made a delicious pumpkin soup with seared scallops, followed by melt in the mouth roast rib eye of beef served with potatoes boulangere and cavalo nero and to finish a gorgeous pavlova with poached fruits. I chose two alternative wines which could be served with each course. I certainly had great fun selecting the wines and trying them with Angela’s wonderful food, I hope you enjoy them too.

Inaugurating blog post about cats

As well as loving wine, I also love cats. Flosshilde and Sieglinde (or Flossie and Lindy) are Very Important Cats.

They are five and a half years old and have lived with us since they were four months old. Flossie is the one with the candy-floss pink nose and Lindy has a liquorice-black nose.

Flossie likes to play in the bath, but only when it is dry. As far as her food tastes go, she really likes fish of any sort and seafood and is also partial to the occasional morsel of blue cheese. Lindy prefers poultry to fish and is particularly fond of any game bird she can lay her paws on – provided they have been roasted first. She is also adept at quietly removing turkey legs from turkeys, unfortunately for her, she is not so adept at quietly jumping down from counters with turkey legs in her mouth…
